A level of teaching occurs in relationships, which, once they are formed, are lifetime. These are teaching/learning situations in which each person is given a chosen learning partner who presents him with unlimited opportunities for learning. These relationships are few, because it implies that those involved have reached a stage simultaneously in which teaching-learning balance is actually perfect.
This does not mean that they necessarily recognize this; in fact, they generally do not. They may be quite hostile to each other for sometime, and perhaps for life. Yet should they decide to learn it, the perfect lesson is before them and can be learned.
You must choose to hear one of two voices.
One you made by yourself, aka the ego.
The other one is given you by God, who asks only that you listen.
It is possible in this world to hear only the Voice and no other.
It takes great effort and willingness to learn.
MeMe#1 and Me #2
MeMe #1 is the external script, the external MeMe: it wants to build, create, produce, and discover things. It wants to have high status and win victories.
Me #2 is the internal Me. It wants to have certain moral qualities. It wants to have serene inner character. A quiet sense of right and wrong.
MeMe #1 wants to conquer the world.
Me #2 wants to obey the calling to serve the world.
MeMe #1 asks how things work
Me #2 ask why things exist, and what am I here for?
MeMe #1 experiences life as a moral drama.
Me #2 the motto is love, charity and redemption.
MeMe #1 lives by the logic of economics. Pursue self-interest. Impress the world.
Me #2 lives by moral logic. You have to give to receive. You have to surrender to something outside yourself to gain strength within yourself.
In order to find yourself you have to lose yourself.
We live in a world that encourages us to think about how to have a great career but leaves many of us inarticulate about how to cultivate the inner life.
If you are only MeMe #1, you turn into a shrewd animal, a crafty self-serving creature.
You are busy, but you have a vague idea about the meaning of life. You do not have a clear idea of the meaning in life, so you do not know where you should devote your skills, which career path will be the highest and best.
You are busy but you have a vague anxiety that your life has not achieved meaning and significance.
You live with unconscious boredom, not really loving, not really attached to the moral purpose that gives life its worth.
You foolishly judge others by their abilities, not their worth.
Without a commitment to focusing on Me #2, it is easy to slip into a self-satisfied mediocrity.
Me #2 holds that each of us has the power to confront our own weakness and forgive ourselves.
In the course of this confrontation with ourselves, we build character.
The heart cannot be taught in a classroom intellectually, to students mechanically taking notes. Good, wise hearts are obtained through lifetimes of diligent effort to dig deeply within and heal lifetime scars.
You cannot teach it, email it or tweet it.
It has to be discovered within the depths of one’s own heart when a person is finally ready to go looking for it, and not before.
MeMe #1 made the world as he perceives it.
Me #2 is the interrupter of what it made.
Correct, learn, and be open to learning. Whether it is around the dessert tray or the late night bar, we know we should choose one thing, but end up choosing another. As the bible says: For the good that I would I do not; but the evil which I would not, that I do.
ACIM Lesson 154: Whatever your appointed role may be, it was selected by the Voice for God [aka Voice for your good], Whose function it is to speak for you as well. Seeing your strengths exactly as they are, and equally aware of where they can best be applied, for what, to whom and when.
A messenger is not the one that writes the message he delivers. “To those of you who have the inner insight comes the opportunity to lead a despairing world one step closer to the light. Take the knowledge which is yours and adjust its application to the world’s needs so that the recognition of Truth may be rapid”.
ACIM: “As you accept the unwillingness to accept error in others you must join the great crusade to correct and listen to the Voice. The power to work miracles belongs to you. I [your higher self] will provide the opportunities to do them. But you must be ready and willing. Doing them will bring conviction in your ability.
